Open-ended days offer time for spontaneity. Is it a bad day for focus? Let’s take a trip to the park—or museum or pool. Want to get some of the wiggles out? Hit that hike you’ve been thinking about – go berry or apple picking. The point is to get outside of the regular school day. Tomorrow will be easier and we can get back on track. It’s okay to take a break.

Letter O
We make one day of our school week an open-ended day. Is there an event or field trip opportunity? Is there a bug or a cool plant to learn about? How about answering one of the fifty thousand questions you’ve been asked today in detail?
We use our open-ended days to learn about whatever we want. Or to have a playdate with Legos or a trip to the library. We let the day take us wherever and learn something fun and new.

As a homeschooling mom, I know one of the homeschool essentials is a good-quality printer with cheap ink. Make sure you look at the cost of the ink before you buy. The printer price isn’t the price to worry about. We have an old one we bought about 10 years ago. Totally worth it. It doesn’t even have to have both print cartilages to print.
