Why should you incorporate field trips into your homeschool?
It’s not hard to get stuck homeschooling. Sometimes it’s a hard subject, times it’s a bad day and still others are just too much routine. Whatever the reason getting away and doing something new can be a welcome break.
Routines get boring
Routines can get boring. I’m all about routines. They’re like habits in our house. There’s nothing like it for getting things done. There’s no question about what we’re doing next. It’s the same thing every day. The thing is though, a routine can be super boring. It’s a great break when we do something different all day. Or skip the big three and just do art or a science experiment day. Or better still field trip!
Easy way to cover different topics
I’m a big fan of teaching reading, writing, and math every day. Sometimes that’s all we do. But there are lots of other subjects that need to get done too. Get a few in at the hands-on science museum or a historical site.

Good option for a bad day
Sometimes a park day is all we have energy for. There’s no listening. There’s no cooperating. Mom quits. It’s time to go socialize at the park and let the reading for another day.

Healthy reward
Using the big field trip as a reward for finishing a tough subject is a great healthy reward. Go away for a weekend and stay on a camping site as we did over labor day weekend and catch a few fish, learn how to start a fire, and stay off the screens for a copy of days. It will be good for everyone and a learning experience you can’t do with books.
