Spring is finally here! I know you’re excited too. 2020 was miserable and with the new year and things reopening, we can’t wait to get back to normality, whatever that is.
We’re planning on lots of outside time, soaking up some much needed vitamin D. It’s time to hit the park for hours and play with friends.
Here are a few of our favorite spring things to do.
Bug Hunts
We love to bug hunt. The bugs start getting active in the spring. It’s so much fun to wander around with a bug capture kit and check them out up close. It’s so cool to see the bugs’ world. Watch ladybugs walk around on plants, praying mantis hunt for other bugs in the underbrush, or a spider spinning a web.
If you’re not a huge fan of bugs. Check out this post about it. My three brothers did a pretty good job at bug proofing me, thank goodness. But that’s not true for everyone. Also check out our free dragonfly workbook. And if your kids are little this DIY Ladybug craft is great fun.
Spring Crafts
We do love spring crafts. Aiden loves making wooden kits. We’ve made all kinds of things. The best part is they can be at the dollar store. We got these ones at Lowes for Christmas.
Boats are another fun one to make in the spring. The weather is getting nicer and the water table comes out for play.
And of course the major craft holiday in the spring is Mother’s day. Try out this handprint craft we did last year. It’s one of my favorites.
Getting Outside to Play
One of the best parts of spring is getting outside to play. Whether it’s playing with friends, riding bikes, or playing at the park for hours. Getting outside to play helps you stay healthy too. Staying active, getting fresh air, and soaking in the much-needed vitamin D.
We like to make a bucket list of things to do like this one for big kids or this one for littles.
Getting exercise as a mom can be tough. Here are five ways I’ve exercised with my son when he was really little. Now we run, walk, swim and bike together. He’ll even do pushups and other calisthenics.
Rainy Days
When we’re not outside jumping in puddles and picking up worms, we have fun with some of these craft ideas. Rainbow roundup crafts and activities . Rainy day roundup crafts and activities.
Easter
Easter egg hunts are our favorite way to celebrate Easter. Usually before church the easter bunny stops by with a basket of goodies and drops a few eggs to hunt. Here is a sneak peek into two of Aiden’s Easter baskets (active kids and active toddler ideas.)
Spring Learning
As the weather gets nicer we try to do a lot of our learning outside. Head to the park and do school work when there’s a break or two.
If you’ve been considering swimming lessons you can start really young. Aiden started in the water at 6 weeks old and was swimming independently before 2. Here’s how we did it.
We love outdoor science activities. I don’t know how many times we’ve done the vinegar and baking soda experiment. It’s still a ton of fun. If your little one is curious about the world around them try these easy science ideas. And if your kid is a little older try these stem projects.
Gardening with Kids
The garden is a wonderful place to explore. Get your hands dirty and learn how to grow your own food. We plant a veggie garden every year. Sometimes it goes well and others we get squat.
This year is no different but we will be adding a fence to hopefully keep the deer away.
This was my first year attempt and update. It was probably our best year.
In 2020 we did our own starters instead of pre started plants. And got just about nothing thanks to a lot of deer enjoying the buffet.
