Springtime Bucket List for Active Kids

With pent up energy all winter long there’s nothing quite like spring.  And I honestly don’t think there’s any stopping my boy. When we can we want to be outside.  So I thought we needed a list of fun outside things to do to enjoy our spring. So we built our springtime bucket list for active kids. Try out a few on your next outside day.

Riding bikes at the park

We love our outside time.  Wether it’s gardening, or bird watching or playing in the mud there’s so much to do.  Try out a few things from our bucket list. It’s time to go outside and have some fun.  

Gardens Grow

We have a lot of fun in the garden.  There’s veggies and flowers and weeds.  🙂 It’s the best place to learn out the food we eat and the bugs that help make the garden grow.  My son loves to dig and water and play in the mud.

  1. Plant a garden
  2. Look at leaf buds and take about trees
  3. Spread some seeds (dandelions)
  4. Pick some wildflowers
  5. Learn more about pollen
  6. Learn more about veggies

Birds Sing

Feeding the ducks

With cats in our house, there’s a lot of bird watching here.  When the birds are singing you know it’s spring. They are full of color and lots of fun to feed and watch.  

  1. Make a bird feeder
  2. Look in a bird’s nest
  3. Make a bird’s nest
  4. Find feathers
  5. Go bird watching
  6. Build a birdhouse

Play Outside

When you’re stuck inside with an active child because of bad weather for months, it’s time to get out and go.  Fresh air is good for everybody. Just don’t forget the allergy meds if you have trouble with all the pollen.

  1. Fly a kite
  2. Go on a scavenger hunt
  3. Draw with chalk
  4. Egg hunt
  5. Go on a picnic
  6. Go to the park
  7. Ride a bike
  8. Blow some bubbles
  9. Play I spy
  10. Go to a county fair
  11. Spend an entire day outside (no screen time)
  12. Go to the beach
  13. Go on a hike
  14. Stargaze
  15. Sleep in a tent
  16. Have a s’more
  17. Have a family barbecue
  18. Go blueberry picking

Imagine

Skip the screentime and seek the imagination that is so powerful in the young.  Look up and find shapes and animals in the clouds. Makeup stories and listen to the wind.  

  1. Paint a pet rock
  2. Follow a rainbow
  3. Cloud watch
  4. Start a fairy garden
  5. Tell a story
  6. Write a story
  7. Read outside

Bugs!

Play with bugs in the garden, looking in the trees, or by flipping over rocks.  Just be careful. So may irritate skin or be poisonous.

  1. Build a bug
  2. Find bugs
  3. Exam bugs
  4. Learn about the different life cycles of bugs
  5. Play with a caterpillar
  6. Feed a caterpillar a leaf
  7. Dig up some worms
  8. Start an ant farm

Water

While we are particle to swimming there’s nothing like playing in the rain.  Don’t forget the rainboots and umbrella or swimsuit.

  1. Play in the rain
  2. Splash in some puddles
  3. Have a water balloon fight
  4. Have a squirt gun battle
  5. Play in a bucket of soapy water
  6. Play in a stream

Mud

Get messy in mud

We do love mud.  It’s definitely a messy place to play but you can make so many messy memories.  Enjoy the fun and then get the hose out for the cleanup.

  1. Make mud pies
  2. Dig up some worms
  3. Learn about different types of dirt
  4. Jump in mud puddles
  5. Draw in with mud
  6. Paint with mud
  7. Throw mud balls
  8. Play with cars or construction vehicles in mud

Trees

Climb a tree

Trees clean our air.  They are the home for some any little creatures.  The perfect place to play on a sunny day.

  1. Learn more about trees
  2. Grow an apple tree
  3. Plant a tree
  4. Build a treehouse
  5. Climb a tree
  6. Hang a bird feeder or house

Make Something

Even though it’s much nicer outside there’s always a storm or two that makes it hard to play.  Have a plan to make something new to play with for the next nice day.

  1. Make a suncatcher
  2. Create a windchime
  3. Make a kite
  4. Create a paper airplane

There are tons of cute baby animals in the springtime.  Look for the birds or the bunnies.

  1. That zucchini is INCREDIBLE! It’s as big as your little guy! We can’t grow veggies that big here in the desert. LOL!
