Fall Crafts and Activities

Do you love fall?  Here are a few fellow bloggers’ ideas for celebrating and enjoying this time of year for young kids.  If you’d like more ideas here are my Free Fall Fun ideas and my Vegan Butternut Squash Recipe.

Leaves

Kayla on Parenting Expert to Mom you can try out her 10 Toddler Leaf Activities to Try This Fall.  There are so many things to learn from leaves.  Get outside and play. Learn about color, shapes, and words through play.  Who doesn’t love running through, jumping in, and throwing leaves?

What is fall without colorful leaves?  Sam’s Fall Handprint Tree Craft for Kids uses your child’s hand and arm print for the trunk.  You have to cut out a bunch of leaves to glue down. She likes using colorful cardstock. Check out her pattern here.

If you’re like me the puzzles don’t always get put back together.  We have a bunch of pieces that don’t belong to anything. Here’s a way to use them from Toni at Becoming Schultz in Toddler Fall Tree Craft. Create a tree from your child’s hand and arm then add pieces.

This fall sensory bottle from Stacey at the Soccer Mom Blog is a great fall decoration or a fun no mess toy.  It can be in a mason jar or a clear plastic container depending on how old your child is.  You’ll need your choice in a container, glycerin, water, a branch, fall foliage leaf confetti, and hot glue.

Another leaf sensory bottle option from Sam at Simple Everyday Mom uses the same leaf sequins from before.  She uses a different mix inside and lots of glitter.  I like the bottle she uses and I highly recommend it for young kids.

Creepy Crawlers

Check out the woolly bear.

How many woolly bears have you seen this time of year?  We’ve found a few. Alecia on Chicken Scratch NY created an awesome idea for painting Woolly Bear Craft for PreK+.  It’s a very simple project for Pre-K.  With just a simple rectangle to give a guide for the wooly bear creation, some cut out leaves and cotton balls.

Coloring and Wordsearch

Word searches are a little bit above Aiden’s interest level but if you like them Alecia from Chicken Scratch NY has some free printables for you in her Fall & Thanksgiving Word Search.  There are two options one simple and one more complicated.

Check out Kristina’s Fall Coloring Pages.  There are pumpkins, leaves, umbrellas, and kites to color.  Her whole site is full of great printables for preschool through kindergarten.  We’ll be visiting often this year and next.

Characters

fall characters, scarecrow, turkey, fall crafts and activities

This paper plate craft is a great one from Finding Zest.  Emilie created a scarecrow.   It’s a cute scarecrow face.  Check out her pattern here.   You need some paper, a paper plate, googly eyes, burlap, yarn, pipe cleaners, leaves, and straw.

This Thanksgiving craft from Twin Pickle is a little tough for a toddler.  But looks just like a turkey from the shell of a walnut. Katherine’s Simple Hanging Thanksgiving Walnut Turkey Craft could be a nice decoration for fall.  Not just a good craft for the kids.

Pumpkins

Apple stamping takes me back to childhood.  Stacey came up with a great way to make a pumpkin shape without needing to know how to make it.  Just paint, apples but in half and some paper. Although we were trying to get stars with our apples 20 some years ago her stamps look just like pumpkins and you can add a face to turn it into a jack-o-lantern.  We will be trying this one out.

Stacey pumpkin face puzzles are really cute.  She makes a few different faces and puts velcro dots on each piece so they can be put together anyway your child likes.  You’ll need jumbo popsicle sticks, velcro dots, paint, and paintbrushes. Check out her pattern here.

Rachel has a wonderful playdough recipe on Creative Homemaking.  She says it smells like pumpkin pie.  Don’t forget to put away this one will dry out without a container.  Her recipe is a big batch so we will be halfing it when we make it.
